Obituary

A well lived life speaks for itself…. On Friday, June 12th, Sofea M. (Peters) Jarras passed into the hands of God at the age of 99. Her husband, George V. Jarras, passed away in 1986. She leaves behind her two beloved sons, Robert E. Jarras and his wife Victoria of Boston and Gregory P. Jarras of Worcester, with whom she made her home; a sister, Gloria Theodore of Worcester; a granddaughter, Hedy Jarras and her husband Brian Canty of Newton; a great granddaughter, Emma Canty of Newton; and nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a sister, Violet Minor.
She was born in Danvers, the daughter of Christo and Constance (Marko) Peters and graduated from Worcester’s David Hale Fanning Girls Trade School as a seamstress. She began her career at Gross & Strauss Company where her talent and understanding of women’s fashion were soon recognized. She continued in retail sales at The Women’s Shop, Harper’s, and Charles Kay Dress Shop, becoming the clothes buyer for the latter two shops. Sofea was a classy and elegant lady, who always had a kind word for everyone. She always made her customers and the people in her life feel good about themselves. Sofea was the epitome of grace and elegance.
Sofea’s joy in life was her family, most especially her two boys. She enjoyed her home, where she was able to enjoy her 99th birthday, her friends, and taking vacations. Her family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Sofea’s caregivers during her illness.
She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church and was a longtime member of its Women’s Guild and the Daughter’s of St. Mary.
A calling hour is from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 16th in St. Mary’s Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, 545 Salisbury Street. Her funeral service will follow at 11:00 A.M. in the Church. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Mary’s Assumption Albanian Orthodox Church, 545 Salisbury Street, Worcester, MA 01609. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, is assisting with arrangements.
