Mario L. Presentato, age 86, of Mansfield, formerly of Walpole, passed away on Monday, June1, 2015 at Norwood Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of the late Gertrude J. (Rozuck) Presentato to whom he was wed for 57 years at the time of her death on March 22, 2010.
Born in Walpole, MA on August 1, 1928, he was a loving son of the late Anthony and Fioriana (Pagnini) Presentato.
Mario grew up in Walpole and was a graduate of Walpole High School where he was a standout athlete excelling in baseball, hockey and football. He also attended Suffield Academy in Connecticut and had the privilege of playing AA baseball for the New York Yankees.
During the Korean War, Mario proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. Following nearly three years of faithful service, he was honorably discharge on Feb. 23, 1955 with the rank of SGT (T).
A resident of Mansfield for over 45 years, Mr. Presentato was a retired bartender having worked at the former Barley Corn in Walpole and at the former Mansfield VFW Post. When younger, he had been employed as a salesman.
Mario was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, and a member of the Mansfield VFW and the Italian American Club in Walpole.
He was an avid New England sports fan and enjoyed bowling, playing golf and bocce. He also enjoyed playing cards and attending local horse racing events.
He is survived by his devoted sons Mark L. Presentato and his wife Theresa of New Mexico, Jay D. Presentato and his wife Robin of Mansfield and Peter A. Presentato and his wife Laura of Mansfield. He was the dear brother of Vera DeRosa of West Dennis, Teresa Mattson of Walpole, and the late Madeline Ellis and Emily Howe. He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren Nicholas, Joseph, Anthony, Katie and Meghan Presentato all of Mansfield, and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday, June 12th at 9:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St. Mansfield, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Walpole.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 11th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
