Velma Lee Mitchell, 78, of Fitzgerald, died Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Friday, May 29, 2015, at Abundant Life Pentecostal Worship Center in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Ricky Kellum officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Mitchell was born May 28, 1936, in Turner County, Georgia, to the late Seaborn Lee & Pauline Coleman Moody. She formerly worked at a packinghouse in Florida, having lived in Florida for 37 years. She was also a former employee of Hudson’s Pecan and Fitzgerald Underwear. She was a member of Abundant Life Pentecostal Worship Center.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Retha Lynn & Johnny Ricky Cotton of Waynesville, Pat Mitchell and Carl Snowden of Fitzgerald, Brenda & Ray Reaves of Waynesville, and James Ed Mitchell, III of Fitzgerald; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Reba Whitley, Ann Sanders, and Sudie Musslewhite, all of Fitzgerald and Sylvia Wiley of Ashburn; one brother, Curtis “Bud” Moody of Ocilla; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James “Junior” Mitchell; two daughters, Linda Gail Findley and Mary Lou Spires; two sisters, Bernice Black and Bennie Ruth Wright; and one brother, Richard Moody.
