AUBURN-Ellen M. (Cominsky) Berg, 95, passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at UMASS Memorial Hospital. Her husband of 48 years, John G. Berg passed away in 1990. Ellen leaves her three children, Kathleen M. Hogan and her husband James of Northborough, Steven J. Berg and his wife Sharon of Auburn and Jeanne M. Davis and her husband Kirk of Douglas; six grandchildren, Pamela Guggina, Sarah Hogan, Emily Miller, Jeffrey and Erik Berg and Erin Ramirez; five great grandsons and five great granddaughters; nieces and nephews. She also leaves her caring neighbor and friend, Yvonne Eid, of Auburn. Her sister, Rita Abrahamson and her dear friend and cousin, Anita Volungis, predeceased her.
Ellen was born in Worcester the daughter of William and Marie (Johnson) Cominsky. She worked at Johnson Steel & Wire, Wick Wire, and retired from the bursar’s office at Clark University. She was a member of North American Martyrs Church and a lifelong member of “The Club”. Ellen was an extremely creative woman and was famous for knitting and making her own clothing, drapes, and rugs. She enjoyed ice skating, gardening, dancing, cooking, and canning. She and her late husband, John, enjoyed canoeing on the lake at the camp they owned in Douglas. She was an avid walker who would time her walks in an effort to improve herself. Her pride in her family can accurately be reflected in her famous quote, “If you don’t know my kids and grandchildren you were not listening!”
The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 28 from LINDQUIST LUNDIN Funeral Home, 36 Butler Street, with a Mass at 11:00 AM at North American Martyrs Church, 8 Wyoma Drive. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. Visiting hours are Wednesday, May 27 from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
