Obituary

WORCESTER: Carol N. (Verdini) Johnson, 63, beloved wife of Donald L. Mathes, died on Monday, May 18, 2015 at St. Vincent Hospital, due to a series of complications that developed during a long struggle with Multiple Sclerosis. In addition to her husband of almost 10 years, she leaves two daughters, Erin and Meaghan Johnson, both of Worcester; her sister, Cynthia A. Kubert and her husband Richard of Worcester; her brother, Henry J. Verdini and his wife Barbara of Holland; two loving grandchildren, Keandre and Vivianna; and many nieces and nephews. Her first husband, Francis J. Johnson, Jr., died March 25, 1998.
She was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of the late Carroll S. and Carmela N. (Gelardi) Verdini and lived here all her life. She was a graduate of Burncoat Senior High School and Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing. She also earned her Masters Degree in Psychology from Anna Maria College in Paxton.
Carol worked for many years as a Registered Nurse at AdCare Hospital until leaving work due to illness. She was a member of the Anna Maria College Alumni. She enjoyed reading and vacationing at Hampton Beach and Martha’s Vineyard.
CALLING HOURS will be held from 5 to 8 P.M. on FRIDAY, MAY 22 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St. A MEMORIAL FUNERAL MASS will be held at 1 P.M. on SATURDAY in OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL CHURCH, 24 Mulberry St. After cremation, burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
