Anthony R. “Tony” Carlone, age 94, of Mansfield, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2015 at the VA Medical Center in Providence.
He was the beloved husband of the late Ann M. (DeFelice) Carlone to whom he was for 55 years at the time of her death on December 25, 2001.
Born in the Province of Aversa, Italy on February 5, 1921, he was a loving son of the late Gennaro and Gabriella (Robbio) Carlone.
As an infant, Tony’s family moved to the United States and settled in North Providence. He grew up and was educated in North Providence, and during WWII, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army prior to being honorably discharged.
A butcher by trade, Mr. Carlone had most recently worked at George’s Café in Brockton. He was a former part owner of the former Fuller Food Service Co. in Mansfield and was well known for his delicious homemade Italian sausage.
Tony had made his home in Mansfield for the past 52 years and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield.
Mr. Carlone’s favorite times spent were those amongst family and he particularly enjoyed his daily visits with retired friends at Honey Dew Donuts in Mansfield.
Tony was also an avid New England sports fan, enjoyed watching classic western movies, reading up on history and especially maintaining his home in Mansfield.
He is survived by his devoted children; Gene A. Carlone and his wife Susan of Durham, North Carolina and Bernadette A. Carlone of Mansfield. He was the dear brother of Vincent Carlone and his wife Sheila of Riverside, California. He was the cherished grandfather of James Carlone and his wife Maria, Peter Carlone and his wife Leslie and Paul Carlone, the great grandfather of Sam, Olivia and William, and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Saturday, May 16th at 11:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
Visitation will be held prior to the services on Saturday morning from 9:30-11:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, Tony’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Providence VA Medical Center, 830 Chalkstone Avenue, Providence, RI. 02908.
