Obituary

Augusta, GA---Frances Miriam Ford, age 86, entered into rest on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, May 11, 2015 at St. Luke United Methodist Church with Reverend Luther Felder officiating. Interment will follow at West View Cemetery.

She was born October 11, 1928 at 1647 St. Luke Street in the Harrisburg Community. She attended John Milledge Elementary School and graduated from Tubman High School for Girls. During her career, she worked for Augusta City Hall and later as secretary at Central Christian Church until 1972, when she began a small day care center, out of her home. St. Luke United Methodist Church, the Hick Street Mission, and Crawford Avenue Baptist Church were an important part of her life. She faithfully attended and played the piano for each church until the mid-1950’s. She had a vivacious enjoyment of music, traveling, reading, gardening, sewing and laughter. Many activities were enjoyed with her children and grandchildren through the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Furman and Flora Odessa McMichael Ford, her brother, Jimmy Jennings “J. J.” Ford and her grandparents, James Pollard and Esther Nicholas McMichael.

She is survived by her son, W. Michael Strickland, Augusta, GA, her daughter Robin Rebecca Werling (Paul), Appling, GA, her grandsons, Benjamin Gerald Werling and Jacob Michael Ford Werling, her two brothers, her sister and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 11, 2015 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm at Platt’s Crawford Avenue.
