Obituary

WORCESTER-Francis X. Mahoney, Jr., 47 of Worcester passed away Thursday, May 7 at Saint Vincent Hospital.

He leaves his mother, Barbara A. (Birch) Mahoney of Worcester; three sisters, Maura A. Mahoney and her husband, Marty Green of Northbridge, Erin M. Nosek and her husband, Kenneth of Spencer and Colleen B. McCallum and her husband, Alexander of Worcester; a brother, Kevin M. Mahoney and his wife, Gloria of Whitinsville; five nieces and nephews, Sadie and Jack Green, his godson, Colin Nosek; Milena and Alejandro Mahoney; and his four bonus nephews and niece, Chris, Michael and Kevin Nosek and Keri McCallum. He also leaves an aunt and uncle, Jay and Diane Birch of New Jersey; many cousins and countless friends. He was born in Worcester, son of the late, Francis X. Mahoney, Sr. His brother, Brendan Mahoney predeceased him. FX graduated from Doherty Memorial High School, Assumption College and received his Master's degree from Worcester State University.
Whether you called him FX, Fran, or Mr. Mahoney, there is no doubt that you loved and respected him. FX was a school teacher for over 17 years at Elm Park Community School in Worcester. He had loving dedication and commitment to all children, most especially his nieces and nephews and all his students, past and current. As a man of faith, and someone who was always willing to help others, he was proud of the mission work he did in Mexico and Jamaica. His extensive time in Jamaica added to the quality of life and education for all he served. With a love of history, FX also spent many years working part time at the Higgins Armory. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, going to the ocean and working out at the Worcester Athletic Club. He was a lifelong and very active member of Immaculate Conception Church and was CCD teacher.

The Funeral will be held Tuesday, May 12 from CALLAHAN~FAY~CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street with a Mass at 11:00AM in Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove Street. Burial will be private in Saint John's Cemetery. Visiting Hours are Monday, May 11 from 4 to 7 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a go fund me account has been set up with proceeds going towards technology for the Elm Park Community School and the Worcester Veterans, Inc. Shelter.
