Philip B. Swallow, age 84, of Norton, formerly of Naples, Florida and Shrewsbury, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence.
He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley A. (Richardson) Swallow to whom he was wed for 55 years at the time of her death on June 24, 2012.
Born in Worcester, MA on August 29, 1930, he was a dear son of the late Basil and Milly (Pearson) Swallow.
He grew up and was educated in Worcester. During the Korean War, Philip proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy; stationed in the submarine base in Connecticut.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Swallow spent a career; which spanned 26 years with the Worcester Police Department. He retired with the rank of detective with the cities Bureau of Criminal Investigations Unit and was a member of the Massachusetts Police Association.
He had also previously owned and operated the Swallow Garage Door Co. in Vineyard Haven on Martha’s Vineyard.
A resident of Norton for the past 15 years, he was a former longtime resident of Shrewsbury and Naples, Florida
Philip enjoyed the simple pleasures of relaxing at home with family; which included serving as a loving caregiver to his late wife Shirley and as a personal “taxi service” to his adoring grandchildren. He also enjoyed working in his yard and watching classic movies.
He is survived by his devoted children: Linda A. May of Worcester, Philip S. Swallow of Virginia and Donna M. Biteye and her husband Ibrahima of Norton. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Erica, Justin, Amanda, Joel and Abigail, and great grandsons: Aidan and Lucas. He was pre-deceased by his sister Doris Cron.
Memorial Services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday, May 16th at 11:00 a.m. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial with military honors will follow at the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday morning prior to services beginning at 10:00 A.M.
