Eldora Courtney of Plymouth passed away peacefully at the Newfield House on April 18, 2015 at the age of 90. She was the wife of the late George R. Courtney and sister of the late Bernard Holmes and the late Ashley Holmes.
Eldora was born December 29, 1924, the daughter of the late Ernest and Susan (Finney) Holmes.
She leaves her daughter Jacqueline Courtney, of Carver, son Craig Courtney and his wife Donna, of South Carolina, and daughter Jane Coombs and her husband Kimball of Plymouth. Eldora will be sadly missed by her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
Eldora was an R.N and graduated from The Waltham School for Nursing and also completed training at Boston City Hospital. She proudly joined the U.S Cadet Nurse Corps of the Army and cared for many soldiers at Camp Edwards as they returned from the war. She went on to work at Jordan and Toby Hospitals, as well as hospitals in Florida and New York. She also worked at Harmond’s and Cape Cod Nursing Home. Eldora owned her own nursing home in Carver. She was also an Ocean spray cranberry grower-owner and loved picking cranberries. She enjoyed traveling. She loved working outside in her flower gardens both here and in Florida where she spent many winters. In the summers she loved swimming at the pond and singing old hymns at The South pond Chapel. She loved being with family and friends.
Visiting hours will be held at the Richard Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Road (Rte 3A) , Plymouth (Manomet), Thursday April 23 from 4 till 8 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Chiltonville Congregational Church , 6 River Street, Plymouth, Friday April 24 at 11 am. The burial will take place at the Chiltonville Cemetery following the service.
