Obituary

WORCESSTER-Robert M. Hagearty, 85, passed away, Sunday, April 12, at home with his loving wife at his side. He was born in New Haven, CT, son of Daniel J. and Rose L. (Gilhuly) Hagearty on October 18, 1929 and grew up in West Hartford, CT and later lived in Millis before moving to Worcester.


He is survived by his wife Margaret A. (Day) Hagearty; his brother, Rev. Charles Hagearty of Naugatuck, CT; his children, Mary Hagearty of Haverhill, Margaret Robertson and her husband, Charles of North Reading, Ann Sanok and her husband, Michael of Exeter, NH, Daniel Hagearty and his wife, Christa of Cohasset, Clare Willis of Flaggstaff, AZ, Ruth Hagearty and her husband Joe Ponzo of North Reading, Susan O’Sullivan of Weymouth, Steven Brown of Natick, Lisa Medina and her husband, Albert, Annmarie Hagearty and her partner, Robert Falvey, Robert W. Hagearty and his wife, Colleen, James Hagearty and Amelya Hagearty all of Worcester and Michael Hagearty and his wife, Jennifer of Webster; 20 grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Daniel Hagearty, his son, Robert Hagearty, Jr. and his granddaughter, Ariel Brown.


Robert graduated from Central Connecticut University. He received his M.ED from Hartford University and did further graduate studies at the University of Connecticut. He was a teacher in Naugatuck, East Hartford and Hartford, CT and was the Director of Elementary Education in Bellingham, before retiring. After his retirement from teaching he served as the Deputy Clerk in charge at the United States Bankruptcy Court in Worcester. He was a member of the St. Peter’s Parish in Worcester where he worked at church food bank.


The Hagearty family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Schrank and the VNA Hospice nurses who cared for Bob during his last illness.


Visiting Hours are Tuesday, April 14 from 4 to 7 PM at CALLAHAN FAY CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street. A Funeral will be held Wednesday, April 15 from the funeral home with a Mass at 10 AM in Saint Peter’s Church, 929 Main Street. Burial will be in Mary Queen of the Rosary Cemetery, Spencer. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Saint Vincent de Paul Food Bank at Saint Peter’s Church, 929 Main Street, Worcester, 01610.
