Pravin N. Popat, age 69, formerly of Norton, passed away surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth.
He was the beloved husband of the late Hasumati (Ganatra) Popat who died on August 31, 2001.
Born in Rajkot, India on June 13, 1945, he was a loving son of the late Nanalal and Sumanben (Kotecha) Popat. He grew up and was educated in India, where he was a practicing electrical engineer.
In 1968, Pravin moved to the United States; first settling in California. While living in California he attended college and later received his Bachelors Degree in Engineering and Masters Degree in Industrial Management Technology at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He later earned his Doctorate Degree, also in Engineering.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Popat had worked as a Quality Control Manager at Pemstar, Inc. in Taunton. He previously worked for 15 years at the former Texas Instruments in Attleboro. While at Texas Instruments he was accredited with developing three patents in the field of telecommunication equipment protection. Since 1985 Mr. Popat was a certified quality engineer (ASQ).
Pravin was truly a strong man who defined what it meant in life to be determined and successful. In 2003, he suffered a massive stroke, but fought back diligently to overcome his challenges.
Mr. Popat loved spending time with his adoring family and would light up with smiles when in the presence of his beloved grandchildren.
Pravin attended services at Sri Lakshmi Temple in Ashland. He was a loyal New England sports enthusiast, the Boston Red Sox being his favorite team to cheer on. When younger, he enjoyed playing cricket with family and friends at games that he organized at Capron Park in Attleboro. He also enjoyed online Internet surfing.
He is survived by his devoted children: Harsha Culver of Colorado, Alka Arcari of Connecticut and Vijay Popat of Mansfield. He was the cherished grandfather of Nina Culver, Julie Culver, Samuel Popat, Hallie Popat, Olivia Arcari and Ethan Arcari. He was the dear brother of Nayna Patel of Foxboro, Rajendra Popat of Attleboro and the late Sudha Seta. He is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Hindu funeral service, to be held on Wednesday, April 8th at 10:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
Traditional Hindu cremation rites will follow at the North Purchase Crematory in Attleboro.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 7th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Pravin’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the American Stroke Association.
