Barbara V. (Rich) Brown, age 74, a lifelong resident of Norton passed away, surrounded by the embracing love of her family, on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Suncoast Hospice Center in Pinellas Park, Florida. She was the beloved wife of Vincent A. Brown.
Born in Brockton, MA on October 3, 1940, she was a loving daughter of the late Clarence P., Sr. and Virginia “Dolly” (Squadrilli) Rich. She was educated in Norton schools and was a 1958 graduate of Norton High School.
Prior to retiring, Mrs. Brown had worked in the printing department at Wheaton College in Norton for 26 years. She had also helped in the day too day operations of her family’s businesses; the Norton Hot Dog Stand, where she was
Known as “the hot dog woman” and at the former Jimmy’s Restaurant in Norton.
When younger, Barbara had worked at the former Fernandes Supermarket courtesy booth and enjoyed bowling as a member of the company’s bowling league.
Barbara was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton. She enjoyed, winter months in Florida, summers spent on Cape Cod, and her hobbies included knitting dishrags.
Her greatest pride and joy was her adoring family. She treasured the memories of helping to raise her grandchildren and especially attending her grandsons musical and singing “gigs”, traveling along with her granddaughter’s softball teams, and the pride of watching them win the state championship.
In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by her devoted son James V. Brown of Norton. She was cherished grandmother of Stephanie J. Brown and Timothy J. Brown both of Norton. She was the dear sister of Clarence P. Rich Jr., of Norton, Janet J. O’Reilly and her husband Ronald of Norton and the late Paul G. “Zeb” Rich. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Jonathan O’Reilly and his wife Pia of Norton.
Her funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 7th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St. Norton. Burial will follow at the Norton Common Cemetery in Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 6th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
