Lt Col Stephen “Mike” Peters, 67

Retired Lt Col Stephen “Mike” Peters, age 67, of Mansfield, formerly of New York, passed away, in the presence of his loving family, on Friday, March 27, 2015 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare in Norton.
Born in Shanghai, China on November 29, 1947, he was a son of the late John and Eleanor (Runals) Peters.
Mike spent his childhood living throughout the world. At the age of 15, his family moved to the United States and settled in Olean, New York.
Mike was a 1965 graduate of Olean High School. He furthered his studies and graduated from Alfred University in New York
From 1969-1992, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army in both active duty and as a member of the Army Reserve. He served during the Vietnam Era and was a helicopter pilot during the Korean Conflict. For over 20 years Lt Col Peters had also worked as a pharmaceutical salesman.
Mike had made his home in Mansfield for the past 2 years and previously resided for many years in the Albany, New York area.
He was a life member of the American Veterans Post #1 in Shanghai, China. His hobbies included being an avid golfer and scuba diver. He was a member of the Ballston Spa Country Club in Ballston, New York, and also served as a dedicated volunteer at the Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital in Schenectady, New York.
He is survived by his devoted children Colleen P.
Hussey and her husband Michael of Mansfield and Michael W. Peters of Clifton Park, New York. He was the loving grandfather of Camden and Joshua Hussey of Mansfield. He was the brother of John Peters and his wife Pati of Cold Spring Harbor, New York, and the uncle of Jennifer Cooper and Lauren Peters.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, March 31st from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the home of Colleen and Michael Hussey, 9 Helena Circle, Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, Mike’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to support Dr. Brad Dickerson’s Dementias Research at Massachusetts General Hospital, 149 13th St., Suite 2691, Charlestown, MA 02129. ATTN: Liz Lynch.
