Nellie Smith Reaves, 93, of Fitzgerald, died Monday, March 23, 2015, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Thursday, March 26, 2015, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Dewain Joiner officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Reaves was born March 13, 1922 in Wedowee, Alabama, to the late Maron & Viola Smith. She formerly worked at a cotton mill in LaGrange as well as Fitzgerald Underwear. She was a talented gardener who enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables. She also loved making quilts. She was a member of the Fitzgerald Church of God.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Barbara Ann Walker of Fitzgerald, Jeanette & Marlis Kitchens of Heflin, Alabama, Carolyn Griner of Brunswick, Mary Nell & William Graham of Georgetown, Jerry & Beverly Reaves of Rochelle, Brenda Carelock of Tifton, and Jane & Chris DeBerry of Fitzgerald; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Fred Smith of Waco. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Shellie Reaves; four sons: J.D. Reaves, John Taylor Reaves, Jack Reaves, and Frankie Reaves; a daughter, Donna Sue Reaves; a granddaughter, Pattie Reaves; two brothers and three sisters.
