Obituary

Marcus Glenn Banks, Jr., 58, of New Bedford died March 15, 2015 unexpectedly at home. He was the beloved husband of Julia M. (Soares) Banks.

Born in Newport, RI, the son of Elizabeth (Hyman) Cecilio and the late Marcus Glenn Banks, Sr., he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.

He was employed as a longshoreman at the Maritime Terminal, and had previously worked for the City of New Bedford Department of Public Works.

Mr. Banks served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Louisiana and Germany. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Andrews-Dahill Post 1531.

He enjoyed fishing, watching football, and working on cars and boats. He was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He loved being with his daughter and grandchildren, spending whatever time he had with them. He was a hard worker and will be dearly missed by all of his loved ones and friends.

Survivors include his wife; his mother; a daughter, CasSandra AnnMarie Soares; three brothers, Maurice A. Banks, Warren Cecilio and his wife Nikki, and Wayne R. Cecilio and his wife Jessica; two granddaughters, Dyemin-Alexis Dunkley and Kirah Soares; a niece, Tyra Cecilio; two nephews, Wayne Cecilio, Jr. and Isaiah Cecilio; an aunt, Dorothy Gibbs; and many cousins and extended family in Rhode Island, Connecticut, Texas, and California.

He was the brother of the of the late Alfred Dale Banks.

A visitation will be held at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford on Wednesday March 25, 2015 from 11 AM - 1 PM. The funeral procession will leave the Funeral Home at 1 PM for the Massachusetts National Cemetery for a committal service with military honors at 2 PM.
