Evans, GA – Michael E. Short, 47, of Evans, GA, entered into rest on Sunday, March 15, 2015, surrounded by his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Roverse celebrant. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
Michael was an avid fisherman and was happiest on the water with his family and friends. He loved all sports and played on the Evans High School football and baseball teams. He also played college baseball at Augusta College. He loved watching and supporting his nephews’ baseball team, The Augusta Nationals, where he was known as “Uncle Mike” to all. He also coached Columbia County Recreation Football and Baseball teams. Michael was a graduate of Augusta Technical Institute and was a proud member of IBEW Local 1579. He was employed at SRS as an electrician.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Short, and his sister, Karen Short.
Survivors include his mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Short, sister, Theresa Newsome (Barry), brothers, Richard Short (Andrea), LTC Raymond Short (Danielle), nieces and nephews, Ashleigh Newsome, Tyler Newsome, Erin Newsome, Jonathan Short, Ryan Newsome, Nicholas Short, Athena Kellyann Short, Nolan Short, and Mason Short.
Pallbearers will be Ben Hayslip, Joe Wise, David Ellis, Tyler Newsome, Adam Fields, Scott Phillips, Jonathan Short and Todd Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be members of IBEW Local 1579.
A prayer vigil will be held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at the funeral home with Deacon Joe Soparas officiating. The family will receive friends following until 9:00 PM.
