Obituary

WORCESTER-Francis E. Dumas, 86, of Worcester, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Rose Monahan Hospice Home. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Jean H. (Boltruczyk) Dumas in 2009.

Fran leaves six children; Paul F. Dumas and his husband Paul Jung of Gloucester, Sharon A. Gibbons and her companion Mark Lambert, Jack J. Dumas and his wife Paula, Nancy J. Blanchard and her husband Michael, all of Worcester, Fran Dumas and his wife Viviane of Webster and David M. Dumas and his wife Susan of Shaker Heights, OH; 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He also leaves a sister, Elizabeth Dockery of Bowie, MD, a brother, Robert Dumas of Worcester and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his sister Helen Lynch, and two grandchildren in 1997.


He was born in Worcester, son of Alfred and Emma (Guerin) Dumas, graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School and was a Navy veteran of World War II. Fran was a school custodian for the Worcester Public Schools for many years, retiring in 1992 from Doherty High School. Following retirement, he enjoyed traveling the country with his beloved wife Jean, finally settling in Florida for 17 years before returning to Worcester to be close to family and friends.

Fran was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church, Knights of Columbus Alhambra Council #88, Main South American Legion Post 341 and active in the Ty Cobb Little League and Babe Ruth League. He was an avid Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and the University of Notre Dame sports fan. Mr. Dumas’ family would like to thank the VNA and Rose Monahan Hospice for the wonderful care which they provided.


The funeral will be held Monday, March 16 from CALLAHAN FAY & CASWELL FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle Street, with a Mass at 10 AM at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Visiting hours are Sunday, March 15 from 2-4 PM at the funeral home.
