Mary L. (McIntyre) Pointer, age 72, of Norton passed away unexpectedly at home, on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. She was the wife of James Pointer.
Born in Boston, MA on September 2, 1942, she was a loving daughter of the late Peter J. and Mary A. (Terasewicz) McIntyre.
Mary grew up in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston and was a graduate of St. Gregory’s Church in Dorchester. She later received a degree as a registered nurse at the Carney Hospital School of Nursing; also in Dorchester.
Prior to retiring, Mary had worked as an Assistant Director for ten years at the Regent Park Nursing Home in Brockton. She had formerly worked at the Carney Hospital.
Mary’s favorite times spent were those amongst family. She loved vacationing in Florida and trips to Cape Cod. Her other interests included playing bingo, attending yard sales, the outdoors and camping. She had made her home in the Norton area for over 30 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her devoted children: James G. Callinan, III of Norton, Peter J. Callinan of Norton and Maryann Callinan of Georgia. She was the dear sister of Catherine A. Cottuli and her husband Carl of Mansfield and Ann Marie Yates and her husband William of West Barnstable and Punta Gorda, Florida. She was the cherished grandmother of Jimmy, Nicky, Amanda, Jessica, Brittany, Keri, Joey, Mary, Megan, Peter, Andrew and Brooklynn. She is also survived by 7 great grandchildren, her former husband James G. Callinan, Jr. of Quincy and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday, March 9th at 11:00 A.M. in the Edgewood Church of Christ, 26 Edgewood St., Mansfield. Burial will be at a later date at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, March 8th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St, Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, Mary’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
