Peggy Kitchens McGee, 85, of Ocilla, died Sunday, March 1, 2015, at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Frank Primitive Baptist Church, Irwin County, with Elder W.H. Durrence, Elder Emerson Proctor, Elder Tommy McGee, and Elder Paul Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Frank Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. McGee was born July 24, 1929, in Porterdale, Georgia, to the late Elmo & Elizabeth Fincher Kitchens. She attended school in Mystic. She was a sales clerk having worked for the Ocilla Grocery Company, Dill’s Grocery, Winn-Dixie, Sears & Roebuck, Belks, Walkers 5 & 10, H.R. Kaminsky, and the Harris House, retiring at the age of 75. Mrs. McGee enjoyed hosting and attending yard sales and was an avid collector of antiques, which she would then re-sale. She also was a talented painter, specializing in carousel horses. She served alongside her husband in ministry at Primitive Baptist churches at Sturgeon Creek, Hickory Springs, Fitzgerald, Cedar Creek, River Chapel, Mount Nebo, Ephesus, and finally Ocilla. She was active in all areas of ministry throughout their 45-year ministry. Mrs. McGee was a member of Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church in Tifton.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Elder Tommy & Shirley McGee of Collins, Sandra & Raymond Faircloth of Ocilla, Dr. David & Karen McGee of Tifton, and Michael & Brenda McGee of Vienna; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nellie Broome of Ocilla. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Elder Otis E. McGee as well as seven brothers and sisters.
