Obituary

Annie George Portier Stephens, 87, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Saturday, February 28, 2015, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Ocilla, with the Rev. Rex Johnson officiating. Noah Griffin will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Frank Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Ms. Stephens was born September 11, 1927, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Willie Walter & Nancy Priscilla Whitley Portier. She was a graduate of Ocilla High School. She formerly worked as a waitress at Osceola Restaurant and Dairy Queen. She retired from the Irwin County High School lunchroom where she was known as the “Milkshake Lady”. Ms. Stephens enjoyed her pets and growing flowers in her garden. She ate lunch at the Irwin County Hospital almost everyday and was “Granny Annie” to everyone. She was a member of the former Ocilla Primitive Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Dr. Dan Twilley of Ooltewah, Tennessee, Glenda & Larry Walker of Fitzgerald, Michael & Catherine Sirmans of Ocilla, and Bonnie & Billy Brooks of Fitzgerald; her grandchildren: Nancy Twilley, Rachel Smith, Matthew Twilley, Ray & Leigh Walker, Blake & Stephanie Sirmans, Clayton & Jessica Sirmans, and Misty Harper; two step-grandchildren: Angie Brooks and Peggy & Ricky Freeman; six great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Joe & Myrtle Portier of Ocilla; and two sisters: Joan Bennett of Smyrna and Jeannie Ellis of Merritt Island, Florida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister and five brothers.
