Obituary

WORCESTER-Clifford A. LaVigne, Sr., 98 of the Briarwood Retirement Community passed away, Saturday, February 21 at UMASS Medical Center.


His wife, Ingrid V. (Swanberg) LaVigne died in 1985. He leaves his daughter in law, Geraldine (Meola) LaVigne of Moody Beach, ME; two grand-daughters, Robin A. and her husband, Peter J. Merchant of Gardner and Kimberly A. and her husband, Allan R. Lipka of Shrewsbury, and grandson, Mark C. Stuart of Barre, six great-grandchildren, nieces, a nephew and cousins. His son, Clifford A. LaVigne, Jr., his grand-daughter, Debra A. LaVigne-Stuart, and his sister Corrine Pratt predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of J. Albert and Florence M. (Lamoreaux) LaVigne and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School. He served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard.


He was the founder and president of the former Arrow Composition Inc. Cliff was a woodworking enthusiast well into his 80's and maintained a wood shop that was the envy of any woodworker. Cliff loved to travel and his many adventures took him to Alaska, Europe and Australia. He was an avid photographer and enjoyed sharing his photos with anyone he met. In his later years, he enjoyed attending Golden Years at Mount Carmel - St. Ann parish to socialize with other seniors. Cliff was also an avid reader and read the local paper front to back daily.


Cliff always amazed people with his youthful looks, he was often mistaken for being 20 years younger which always gave him quite a chuckle.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Briarwood Community for their excellent care and compassion.

The Funeral Service will be held Thursday, February 26 at 11:00 AM in FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 1 West Boylston St., West Boylston. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery. A Visiting Hour will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to, The Skyline Technical Fund, c/o Worcester Vocational Technical High School, 1 Skyline Dr., Worcester, 01605.
