Obituary

Dorothy Prescott Cherry, 91, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at The Oaks Nursing Home in Marshallville. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 26, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Church in Perry. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald at 3:00 p.m., also on Monday. A visitation will be held at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home on Sunday, January 25, 2015, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. The family respectfully suggests memorial contributions to Grace Church, 1736 Houston Lake Road, Perry, GA 31069.

Mrs. Cherry was born in Fitzgerald and was the daughter of the late Rufus and Estelle Newsome Prescott. She had resided in Perry since 1977 and was a member of Grace Church. She was a homemaker who loved country music, planting flowers, and boiled peanuts. Mrs. Cherry was a babysitter for years for her family and others. She donated a tree that was planted on the courthouse square in Downtown Perry and is still used for Christmas activities. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Truman Cherry and Howard Rowland; a daughter, Diane Florence; a son, Brendon Rowland; and a brother, Richard Prescott.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Elaine Bradford (Paul) of Suwanee, Sharon Shelton (Chip) of Perry, and June Blair (Neil) of Panama City, Florida; her siblings, James Prescott (Linda) of College Park, Annie Rowland (Buddy) of College Park, Jean Croft (Phillip) of Fitzgerald, and Nancy Jolley of Fitzgerald; twelve grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
