Obituary

Robert A. “Bob” Anderson, 78, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton.

Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, January 24, 2015, at The Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Irwin County, with the Rev. Jay Roberson officiating.

Mr. Anderson was born October 4, 1936, in Bradford, Pennsylvania, to the late Irven F. and Rachel Alma Brown Anderson. After completion of high school he moved to Miami, Florida, to escape the cold winters. He attended specialty technical schools majoring in Hotel Hospitality and held several hotel positions before serving his country in the United States Army via the draft serving his tour of duty at Fort Bliss, Texas, achieving E-4 rank. After his military obligation, he returned to the Miami area and entered the banking, financial services and insurance industry. He started as a licensed agent with one of the larger insurance marketing firms in 1975 and became the President of the company in 1995 and retired in 1997. In 2001, he and his wife Betty Jean moved to Ocilla where he became very active in the community serving on the board at the Ocilla Country Club and serving as Commander of the American Legion Jeff Davis Post 100 in 2006 and 2007.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years: Betty Jean Roberts Anderson of Ocilla; sons: Patrick & Pam Anderson of Kansas City, Missouri and John & Rose Anderson of Oviedo, Florida; four grandchildren: Jennifer Anderson, Erynn Anderson, Daniel Anderson and Meghan Kinsey; two great-grandchildren: Isabelle Kinsey and Madison Kinsey and three sisters: Helen Leonard of Woodstock, Louise Torrey of Millersburg, Pennsylvania and Martha Fairbanks of Picayune, Mississippi. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: William F. Anderson and Richard “Dick” Anderson.
