Harryette Paulk Johnson, 94, of St. Simons Island, Georgia, died Monday, January 12, 2015, at Life Care Center in Fitzgerald.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, February 21, 2015 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church in Fitzgerald.
Ms. Johnson was born February 1, 1920, in Fitzgerald, to the late Harry & Ida Paulk Johnson. Being an only child, she spent her early years in Douglas. In 1934, she moved to Brunswick with her family and graduated from Glynn Academy in 1937. She earned her degree in Education from Stetson University in 1941. After teaching in public schools for a few years, she moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and started a small private kindergarten, which she operated for 37 years. Many devoted children, now adults, who have kept in touch with her through the years, will remember “Miss Johnson”.
Ms. Johnson returned to the Golden Isles in 1982, where she enjoyed her retirement years. While living in St. Simons, she was a member of First Baptist Church, Casino Garden Club, Coastal Historical Society, Guale Historical of Camden, and the Glynn Art Association.
She is survived by her very close cousins: Bob & Beth Bryant, Robert & Alicia Bryant, Paulk & Kristin Bryant, Bill & Deborah Bryant, Stan & Dana Bryant, Wood Bryant, Becky & Brian Scott, Bryant Scott, Bryson Scott, Ben Bryant, Anna & Mark Oliver, Elliott Clare Oliver, Emory Cate Oliver, Susan W. Bryant, Bonnie Bryant, Bailee Bryant, Nora Beth Bryant Albritton, Wes Albritton, Margie & Dickie Bryant, Susan Potts of Perry, David L. Paulk, III of Vallejo, California, and Bruce Nolte. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her uncles: Dave Paulk, Reason Paulk, and Bud Paulk; aunts: Nora Paulk Wester, Minnie Paulk and Irene Paulk Royal; cousins: Henry Wester, Eunice Wester Nolte, Helen Wester Bryant, Brad Bryant, and Brian Nolte.
