Susie Chaney, 86, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Thursday, December 18, 2014, at Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla.
Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, December 21, 2014, at the Lax Community Church Cemetery in Irwin County with the Rev. Donnie Pridgen officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Saturday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Chaney was born September 23, 1928, in Coffee County, Georgia, to the late Willie J. & Effie Merritt Hutto. She worked for Irwin Manufacturing for 15 years as well as several stores in downtown Ocilla. She was the assistant dietitian for Irwin County Hospital. She was also a homemaker and a farm wife. Mrs. Chaney loved cooking, especially for her family. She was a member of Lax Community Church.
She is survived by her husband of 69 1/2 years: Dan Chaney of Ocilla; children and their spouses: Herman & Sally Chaney of Wray, Danny & Arlene Chaney of Ocilla, Patricia & Marston Tucker of Lax and Phillip Chaney of Ocilla; grandchildren: Jennifer Chaney, Amanda & Tommy Clements, Daniel & Heather Chaney, Marshan & David Sullivan, Marcus & Tammie Tucker, Tiffany & Mike West, Colton Chaney, and Hunter Chaney; great-grandchildren: Callie Cooper, Kaitlyn Cothern, Kylie Cothern, Abby Chaney, T.J. Clements, Tyler Martin, Lexi Chaney, Alex Chaney, Dani Lei Chaney, Lorin Tucker, Erin Tucker, Julia Sullivan, Madalyn Sullivan, Holly Sullivan, Conner West, Tucker Dowdy, and Tyler West; three sisters: Frances Craig of Tifton, Elizabeth Barrentine of Wray, and Myram & Gerald Stephens of Jesup; and one brother: Josh Hutto of Wray. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law: Dottie Chaney and siblings: Ivey, Richard, Bud, Vernon, R.J., and Vermie as well as two infant siblings.
