Viola E. Araujo, Sr., 88

Viola E. (Barton) Araujo, age 88, of Norton, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2014 at Madonna Manor in North Attleboro after a long battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of 65 years to the late Daniel P. Araujo, Sr., who died on April 23, 2011.
Born in Attleboro on April 19, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Ida (Fredette) Barton.
Viola grew up in Attleboro and was a 1944 graduate of Attleboro High School for which she attended the reunions until this year. She had made her home in Norton for the past 59 years.
Mrs. Araujo retired from the Norton Public Schools as the cafeteria director in 1987 and later worked as a substitute teacher assistant. Previously she was employed at Kilburn Glass in Norton.
Viola was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton. She was an active member of the Anawan Grange & Bay State Pamona and a past Girl Scout leader.
She enjoyed reading, word searches, knitting, feeding the birds, traveling, listening to Christmas music, and attending family events and activities. She hosted many memorable annual summer holiday picnics
She is survived by her devoted children Daniel P. Araujo, Jr and his wife Rene, Regina G. Lacaillade and her husband Raymond, Michael J. Araujo, Sr. and his wife Alice, and Thomas G. Araujo and his wife Deborah, sister-in-laws: Nancy Araujo, Josie Barton, and many nieces and nephews. She was the adoring grandmother of 12 grandchildren and “GG” to 14 great -grandchildren,
Viola was the last sister of the late Anita Fisk Thorburn, Ethel MacLeod, Harvey Barton, Edna Messenger, Gertrude Desrosiers, Helen Mello, and Everett Barton.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday December 5th at 9:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Attleboro.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday December 4th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
