Edward F. “Ed” Knecht, 80, of Fitzgerald, died Sunday, November 23, 2014 at his residence

Private services will be held at a later date.

Mr. Knecht was born August 18, 1934, in New York City, New York to the late Robert Carl & Eleanor Ruth Engle Knecht. He attended preparatory school in New York and later Columbia University. He earned his Masters degree in Commodities from Harvard University. Mr. Knecht served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War Era. He was stationed in Germany due to his fluency in the German language. He was President and CEO of Shasta Sweetener Corporation as well as Knecht Commodities. He enjoyed a successful career as a commodity analyst and broker. He had a passion for boating, having owned several vessels, and loved being on the water. He was of the Presbyterian faith.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years: Judith Kinsey Knecht of Fitzgerald, his children: Jonathan Edward Knecht & Seana of Kansas City, Missouri, Robert Francis Knecht & Sims of Duxbury, Massachusetts, and Kathryn Engle Knecht of Boca Raton, Florida; six grandchildren; and a sister-in-law: Myrna Truman White of Fitzgerald.
