Jerry C. Padgett, 72, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Tuesday, November 18, 2014, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Friday, November 21, 2014, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla, with Pastor Michael Bass officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Tifton. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, from 6 to 8, at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Padgett was born February 10, 1942, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Joe & Mamie Roberts Padgett. He lived in the community all of his life. He retired as a machinist with Exopack in Tifton and was a former parking lot attendant at Tift County High School. Mr. Padgett was an avid hunter, fisherman and a Dale Earnhardt racing fan. He enjoyed making fishing lures and giving them away to anyone who enjoyed to fish. He truly loved his family and his grandchildren. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years: Faye Padgett of Ocilla; two daughters: Janet Owens of Tifton, and Nancy & Carl Hutchinson of Ocilla; grandsons: Matthew Hutchinson, Alex Hutchinson and Chance & Keri Owens; great-granddaughter: Tyler Owens; great-grandson: Shiver Owens and a sister: Frances King of Acworth. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
