Edward F. Carl. III, age 75, a lifelong resident of Mansfield passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Ethel E. (Clement) Carl to whom he was wed on April 29, 1966.
Born in Foxboro, MA on August 24, 1939, he was a son of the late Edward E., Jr. and Ruth (Cutler) Carl. He was a 1957 graduate of Mansfield High School and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army; stationed in Germany.
Mr. Carl was a retired technician, having worked for the former Carl Oil Co. in Mansfield; a business owned and operated by his family for many years. He was also a real estate investor.
Ed formerly served as a 10 year member of the Mansfield Housing Authority. He enjoyed horse racing, playing cards, and was an avid gardener.
In addition to his beloved wife of 48 years, he is survived by his loving and devoted daughter; Yvonne M. McNamara and her husband Mansfield Firefighter Gerry McNamara, Jr. of Mansfield, and was the loving father of the late Yvette M. Carl. He was the dear brother of Nancy Schromm and her husband John of Florida, Sandra Holske and her husband Lincoln of Lee, MA, and Sharon Brown and her husband Ray of West Falmouth, MA. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren; Eric, Alexzandra, Brett, Zachery, Cameron and Ashley, his great grandson Ryan, and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday, November 18th at 11:00 A.M. in the First Baptist Church, 52 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial will be held privately at a later date at the Boyden Cemetery in Foxboro.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, November 17th from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, Ed’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Our Daily Bread, Mansfield’s Food Pantry, 15 West St., Mansfield, MA 02048.
