Donald A. Cote, age 65, of Norton, formerly of Lowell passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, October 6, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Joan L. (Marion) Cote to whom he was wed for nearly 43 years.
Born in Lowell, MA on October, 13 1948, he was a loving son of the late Real and Rita (Dube) Cote. He grew up and was educated in Lowell.
Don proudly and faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following two years of active duty, he was honorably discharged on June 10, 1970 with the rank of SP4. His numerous citations for bravery and courage included being the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Cote had been employed for over 25 years as a Correctional Officer for the Massachusetts Department of Corrections in Norfolk. Following retirement he had also worked part time at Cumberland Farms in Norton.
Don had made his home in Norton for the past 38 years. He was a talented woodworker; specializing in cabinetry and custom built furniture. Throughout the years he was known for the many types of rocking horses he created with his hands.
He loved spending time with his family which included trips to Las Vegas, quiet times at home with his grandchildren, and cheering on his favorite team; the New England Patriots.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted sons; Sean T. Cote and his wife Shelby of Norton and Jason A. Cote and his wife Megan of Norton. He was the dear brother of Raymond Cote and his wife Nancy of Lowell and Gloria Cote of Tyngsboro. He was the cherished grandfather of Ethan Meisner and Alexandra Cote both of Norton, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday, October 9th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
Services and burial will be held privately at a later date at the convenience of his family.
