Steven K. Gilleran, age 56, of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the Quincy Medical Center following a day spent with his friends. He was the beloved husband of Jane A. (Colura) Gilleran with whom he had spent the past 33 years.
Born in Brockton, MA on February 16, 1958, he was a loving son of the late Barbara (Wells) Casey and the late John F. Gilleran.
Steve spent his early childhood living in Randolph. At the age of 10, his family moved to Mansfield where he remained a resident for 46 years.
Steve was a 1976 graduate of Mansfield High School. While in high school he was a standout athlete; lettering in football and track. He furthered his education, receiving an Associates Degree in Manufacturing Engineering from Wentworth Institute and later received an Associates and Bachelors Degree in Engineering Technology at Northeastern University.
For the past 19 years, Mr. Gilleran had been employed as a Manufacturing Engineer at Masoneilan, a division of GE in Avon, and had previously worked for 18 years at the former Codex in Mansfield.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, Steve was a former member of the Mansfield Gridiron Club and had enjoyed coaching his sons Pop Warner football teams.
Steve’s family was the focal point of his life. He loved attending his sons sporting events and also enjoyed skiing and playing golf. His other hobbies included bicycling and go cart racing.
In addition to his beloved wife Jane, he is survived by his loving and devoted sons; David C. Gilleran and Jimmy M. Gilleran both of Mansfield. He was the dear brother of Kathy A. Stone of Texas, Brian F. Gilleran and his wife Lisa of Virginia, Douglas J. Gilleran and his wife Diane of Connecticut, Elinor M. Shuman and her husband Richard of Amherst, and the late Daniel C. Gilleran. He was the cherished son in law of Robert and Ruth Colura of Rhode Island, and is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, aunt, uncles, cousins and friends.
His Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Thursday, October 2nd at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, October 1st from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, Steve’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Mansfield High School Boosters, care of, Mansfield High School, 250 East St., Mansfield, MA 02048
