Obituary

Roma Spell Evans, 85, of Fitzgerald, died Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Saturday, August 23, 2014, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Dr. Mike Ruffin officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday.

Ms. Evans was born June 23, 1929 to the late Romaine J. and Minnie Bailey Spell. She was a 1946 graduate of Fitzgerald High School and attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. She returned to Fitzgerald to care for her mother. She formerly worked at the House of Yesteryear, Friedlander’s, B.C. Moore’s, and Fitzgerald Junior High School. Ms. Evans was an employee of Paulk Funeral Home for many years and was a familiar face to those we served, particularly during the visitation hours. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald.

She is survived by a son: Dana Evans of Fitzgerald; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law: Jean Spell of Watkinsville; several nieces and nephews; as well as several cousins including Carol Chapman of Irwin County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Naomi Booker and Vera Broadhurst; and a brother: Johnny Spell.
