Mary T. (Long) Marvelle, age 88, of Attleboro, formerly of Wareham and Mansfield passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Life Center of Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard S. Marvelle to whom she was wed for 46 years at the time of his death in 1994.
Born in Boston, MA on January 7, 1926, she was a loving daughter of the late Bartholomew and Alice (Griffin) Long. She grew up and was educated in Boston.
Prior to retiring, Mrs. Marvelle had worked as an assembler at the former Fairfield Optical Co. in Mansfield and had also been employed at the former Bay State Tap & Die Co., also in Mansfield.
Mary had made her home in Attleboro for the past 1 ½ years and was a former 35 year resident of Wareham. While living in Wareham she was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church and was a former parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield.
Her favorite times were occupied in the presence of her adoring family and she especially loved being part of her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s lives. She also enjoyed, along with late husband taking cruises and trips throughout Northern New England.
She is survived by her devoted daughter Paula M. Pembroke and her husband Blair of Attleboro, and was the mother of the late Robert S. Marvelle. She was the dear sister of Bernard Long of Vermont, Thomas Long of Virginia, and the late William Long, Francis Long, Gerald Long, Arlene Weir, Alice Flynn and Robert Long. She was the cherished grandmother of Heidi, Colleen, Lori, Shawn, Christine, Lindsay, Michael, Brandon and the late Blair, Jr. She is also survived by 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday, August 21st from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
A service in celebration of her life will be held at the conclusion of visitation at 7:00P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home. Burial will be held privately at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, Mary’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
