Charles N. Salley, Jr., age 80, a lifelong resident of Norton passed away peacefully, in the embracing love of his family on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the Life Care Center in Attleboro. He was the husband of the late Marsha (Webster) Salley.
Born in Attleboro, MA on March 27, 1934 he was a son of the late Charles N., Sr. ahnd Myra (Limpus) Salley. He grew up and was educated in Norton, and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.
Mr. Salley was a retired auto mechanic and operated his business under the name of Salley’s Auto Parts on Dean St. in Norton. When younger, he had worked for the Norton Highway Department.
Being an auto mechanic it was natural that Charlie’s passion in life was cars. He enjoyed repairing them, attending auto races for many years, and joyfully cruising in his 1968 Pontiac Firebird Convertible.
Charlie loved being surrounded by his family and many friends. He also enjoyed hunting, shooting guns, and will always be remembered for his strong work ethics and in a gentle way; always remaining “tuff as nails” right till the end.
He is survived by his loving and devoted daughters; Mildred E. Rabitor of Florida, Debra A. Bergevine and her husband Stephen of Attleboro, Karen J. Welch and her husband William of Norton, and was predeceased by twin baby girls. He was the dear brother of the late William A. Salley, Barbara J. LaRosee, Carol-Ann Salley and Gilbert L. “Teenie” Salley. He is also survived by his cherished 9 grandchildren which includes his granddaughter Christina Precourt of Attleboro, 11 great grandchildren, his former wife Mildred (Marshall) Salley, and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday, July 21st at 10:00 A.M. in the Life Church (formerly the New Testament Baptist Church), 1 New Taunton Avenue, Norton. Burial with military honors will follow at the Norton Common Cemetery in Norton.
Visiting hours have been omitted and in lieu of flowers, his family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the American Lung Association, 460 Totten Pond Road, Suite 400, Waltham, MA 02451. www.lung.org
