Obituary

Allenstown---Michael L. Phelps, 66, of Allenstown, NH died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on June 30, 2014. Michael was born in Rutland, Vermont on October 9, 1947, the son of Earle and Doris (Greenan) Phelps.
Michael was raised in Laconia and graduated from Laconia High School in 1965. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Plymouth State College in 1969. He went on to earn his Master's of Education at Antioch New England College in 1989. Michael retired from teaching English after 35 years of dedicated service to the Concord School District.
Michael was also very involved in his community over the years where he had coached track and field and football for Concord High School. He also coached track and field at Pembroke Academy, youth basketball teams in Suncook, and he had coached girls' basketball at Armand R. Dupont School in Allenstown.
Michael had also served on the town planning board and was currently active on the Board of Selective Service, the Tri-Town Ambulance Joint Board, and he volunteered every Monday morning at the Payson Center at Concord Hospital.
Michael was a prostate cancer survivor and was dedicated to supporting other cancer patients through his volunteer work and involvement in the Man-to-Man group.
Michael was a loving, husband, father and Grampy. He was his wife's, children's and grandchildren's biggest supporter. He lived for visits with friends and family, and he could tell a great joke. His smile and laughter were infectious, and he will live long in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Alice (Normandin) Phelps of Allenstown; his son, Todd, and his wife, Katie of Pembroke; his daughter, Alyza Morris, and her husband, Dan, of Pembroke; his daughter, Amy DiDomenico, and her husband, Patrick, of Ponte Vedra, Florida; his beloved grandchildren Lydia, Phoebe, Olivia, Daphne, and Lucas; a sister, Joanne Borda and her husband, James, of Laconia; two brothers, Richard Phelps and his wife, Gail, of Chichester and Paul Phelps and his wife, Mary Lou, of Laconia; his brother-in-law, Denis Normandin, and his wife, Karen, and a sister-in-law, Rachel Normandin, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Michael was predeceased by his father, Earle W. Phelps, in 1971, his mother, Doris E. Phelps, in 2007, his parents-in-law, two nephews, and two brothers-in-law.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2014 from 5-8pm in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N.H.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Andre Bessette Parish at Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Ave, Laconia on Friday, July 4, 2014 at 9:30am

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Michael's name to the Payson Center at Concord Hospital, 250 Pleasant Street, Concord, NH 03301 or to a charity/organization of one's choice.
