Douglas C. Faulkner, age 82, of Taunton, formerly of Attleboro passed away peacefully, surrounded by his adoring family, in the comfort of his home on Wednesday, March 26, 2014.
He was the beloved husband of Judith F. (Smith) Faulkner to whom he was wed on September 23,1995.
Born in Nova Scotia, Canada on November 25, 1931, he was a loving son of the late Clayton and Arable (Jaudrey) Faulkner.
Doug grew up in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston and was educated in Boston public schools. During the Korean War, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Faulkner had been employed for many years as a steel rolling mill operator and supervisor at the Newman Crosby Steel Co.
A resident of Taunton for the past 18 years, he had previously resided for many years in Attleboro.
Doug’s favorite times spent were those in the presence of his loving family. They were the focal point of his life and he received so much pleasure attending his grandchildren’s activities.
Mr. Faulkner was an avid sports fan and an athlete himself. While living in Attleboro he ran senior league track and when younger played park league football in Boston.
Doug loved the outdoors of which his favorite interests included playing golf and meticulously caring for his yard. He will also be remembered for the love and kindness he showed towards animals.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted children, Stephen Faulkner of Arizona, Scott Faulkner and his wife Carol of Attleboro, Debra Freeman and her husband Walter of Florida, Robert Faulkner and his wife Christine of Attleboro, Pamela O’Donnell and her husband Charles, Scott Cassidy and Amy Eberle and her husband William all of Norton. He was the dear brother of Richard Faulkner and Marion Schera both of California, Mary Dowgas and Carol Faulkner both of Dorchester, James Faulkner of Attleboro and the late Robert Faulkner, Jean Flynn, and Margaret Wallace. He is also survived by his cherished 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
His memorial service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday, April 3rd at 2:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial will be private.
Visitation will be held prior to the services beginning at 1:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Faulkner’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to HOSPICE, Community Visiting Nurse Agency, Inc., 10 Emory St., Attleboro, MA 02703.
