James A. “Red” Cameron, 77, passed away on January 6, 2014 in Beverly Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Virginia (Doherty) Cameron with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.
Born in Somerville on August 9, 1936, he was the son of the late James M. and Nina (Geddes) Cameron. He served our country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. Red was employed with the Essex Agricultural and Technical High School in Hathorne for 37 years holding various positions. He also was employed with Endicott College for 13 years. Red enjoyed social clubs and was a member of the Elks Lodge in Salem and Beverly, the American Legion in Beverly, the Vittori Rocci Post in Beverly, the Elm Club in Danvers and the Polish Club in Danvers. He took great pride in his grandchildren. He also enjoyed making flower boxes and bird houses and loved spending time in his yard.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Mark Meldrum of Seabrook, NH and Diane and Craig Rogers of Danvers, six grandchildren, Matthew Meldrum and his wife Ashley of NH, and Randy and Michelle Meldrum of NH, Christopher Rogers of CA, and Brian and Cory Rogers of Danvers and a great grandson Bryan. He was predeceased by his son David D. Cameron.
His Funeral Service will be celebrated at 11AM on Monday, January 13, 2014 at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Burial will follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St., Peabody. Visiting hours are 12PM-3PM on Sunday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in Red’s name to a charity of one’s choice.
