William J. Mailhiot, a 44 year resident of Charlestown and formerly of Cambridge, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at his daughters home in North Billerica following a lengthy illness. He was 85 years old.
Bill was born in Somerville on April 14, 1928, a son of the late Hervey Mailhiot and Grace (Morris) Mailhiot. He grew up in Cambridge where he was educated in the Cambridge Public School system and attended Cambridge Ridge & Latin High School. He enlisted into the United States Navy on October 16, 1945 and served his country with pride and honor at the end of World War II. He was discharged on April 22, 1949 with the rank of Commissaryman, Seaman First Class. Bill worked for many years as a self-employed plumber and master gasfitter. He enjoyed traveling to Aruba and Twin Rivers and was an avid photographer.
Bill is the beloved husband of the late Winifred M. (Beauregard) Mailhiot. He is the devoted father of William J. Mailhiot Jr. and Mary McDonough of Stoneham, Elizabeth Hogan and her husband Arthur of North Billerica, Bernadette Cogliano and her husband Vincent of West Peabody and the late Hervey T. Mailhiot and his surviving wife Annette of Winthrop. He is the loving Grandpa to Linda and Arthur Hogan and Christopher and Rachel Mailhiot and his great-grandchildren Kayla, Jenna, Maddox and Brooke. He is the beloved brother of Helen Aveni of Belmont and Charlotte Clancy of Cambridge. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bill's Funeral on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main St. MELROSE followed by his Funeral Mass in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield at 10 A.M. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Visiting hours will be on Monday, December 16, 2013 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
