Walter G. “Sandy” Cheyne, II, age 71 of Bellingham formerly of Wrentham passed away peacefully, in the comfort, of his home on Monday, December 9, 2013. He was the beloved longtime companion and husband of Susan (Plumley) Walker.
Born in Attleboro, MA on August 18, 1942, he was a loving son of the late Walter G. and Virginia K.(Read) Cheyne.
Sandy grew up and was educated in Mansfield. In his senior year he had the distinction of graduating with the Class of 1960 at the Culver Military Academy in Indiana. He continued his education and was a graduate of Boston University.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Cheyne had worked as a special needs teacher for 35 years in the Franklin school system. He had made his home in Bellingham for the past 3 years and was a former 25 year resident of Wrentham.
He was a member and past Master of St. James Masonic Lodge in Mansfield and was a former member of the Congregational Church of Mansfield.
Sandy was a passionate motorcycle enthusiast. He and Sue enjoyed trips by way of motorcycle and he was a member of the Apple Valley Riders Motorcycle Club in Nova Scotia, Canada. His other interests included a love for music of which he enjoyed collecting and playing guitars.
In addition to his wife Sue, He is survived by his devoted children, Elizabeth A. “Meesha” Crowther and her husband Bill of Hatfield, Michelle S. “Shelley” Cheyne of Concord and Paris, France, Deborah J. Wilson of Holliston, Christine D. Forrett and her husband Fred of Auburn and Amy E. Walker of Englewood, Florida. He was the dear brother of Read Cheyne and his wife Marilyn of Rochester, New Hampshire. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Robert Crowther, Alyssa Cheyne, Patrick Crowther, Max Trozier, Samantha Wilson, Rachel Wilson, Jessica Forrett and Rebecca Forrett as well as several nieces and nephews and his former wife Lyn Pickhover of Mansfield.
His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday, December 16th at 10:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial will follow in the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, December 15th from 2:00-4:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Cheyne’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
