Obituary

Dorothea J. "Dot" (Bevens) Giddings, a 12 year resident of Wilmington and a former 10 year resident of Wakefield, 17 year resident of North Reading, 21 year resident of Melrose and Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Winchester Hospital following an extended illness. She was 87 years old.

Dot was born in Boston on November 16, 1926, a daughter of the late Ralph Bevens and Mary (Connolly) Bevens. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1945. Dot worked as a self-employed hairdresser for many years throughout the area and also was a hairdresser for several funeral homes. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and gardening and most of all in her life she enjoyed the quality time and special moments she was able to experience with her family.

Dot is the beloved wife of the late Ralph E. Giddings Jr. She is the devoted mother of Ralph E. Giddings III and his wife Loretta of Melrose, Paul A. Giddings and his wife Anne of North Reading and Jeannette Luti and her husband Richard of Wilmington. She is the loving Grandmother to Jimmy, Melissa, Danny, Kristen, Lynne, Jack and Anthony. She is the beloved sister of the late Barbara Russo, Lillian Douglas and Elizabeth Woodman. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Dot's Funeral on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main St. Melrose followed by her Funeral Mass in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield at 10 A.M. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in North Reading. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 from 5 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
