Obituary

Henry T. Hickey, (Retired Lieutenant, Arson Squad, Boston Fire Department) a 7 year resident of Willow Spring, North Carolina and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at his home in Willow Spring, North Carolina following a brief battle with cancer. He was 68 years old.

Henry was born in Boston on September 18, 1945, a son of the late Thomas and Margaret (Loring) Hickey. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system. Henry enlisted into the United States Army and was a member of the 101st Airborne Division "Screaming Eagles" and served his country with pride and honor during the Vietnam Conflict. Henry was appointed to the Boston Fire Department on December 30, 1970 and was assigned to Engine Company #24 for 6 years. He was transferred to Rescue Company #1 for several years and then to Ladder Company #15 for several years. He was promoted to Lieutenant on August 16, 1978 and was later assigned to the Fire Investigation Unit (Arson Squad) on August 28, 1982. Henry worked diligently while on the Arson Squad solving many arson cases in the City of Boston. He retired on June 30, 2003 after 33 years of service to the City of Boston. Henry began his own investigative company following his retirement know as Hickey Investigations and was called upon many times throughout the country for his expertise in the field of arson. He was a member of the Boston Firefighters Union Local #718, The Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association and the Charlestown Lions Club. He was a former member of the International Longshoreman's Association Union Local #799.

Henry is the devoted father of Christopher Hickey and his wife Christine of Holly Spring, North Carolina and Lauren Hickey of Charlestown. He is the loving partner of 23 years to Karen Denver. He is the beloved brother of Thomas Hickey of Billerica, Gloria O'Reilly of North Carolina, Margaret Curry-Pinkas of Watertown, Stephanie Thompson and her husband Peter of Charlestown, Laura Lee Hickey of Gloucester, Bobby Hickey of Charlestown, Paul Hickey of Charlestown, Jeff Hickey of Pennsylvania and Michelle Long of Florida. He is the loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by "Greenie".

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Henry's Funeral Mass on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 11 A.M. in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Interment is private. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, December 12, 2013 from 4 to 8 P.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown.
