Obituary

Andrew C. Williams, Past President of Ironworkers Union Local # 7. A lifelong resident of Melrose, entered into eternal life on Friday, December 6, 2013 at his home in Melrose following an extended illness. He was 88 years old.

Andrew was born in Everett on September 1, 1925, a son of the late Michael J. Williams and Elizabeth (Costigan) Williams. He grew up in Melrose and was educated in the Melrose Public School system and graduated from Melrose High School in 1944. He enlisted into the United States Navy on February 10, 1944 and served his country with honor and pride during World War II. He was honorably discharged on May 31, 1946 with the rank of Seaman First Class. Andrew began working as an ironworker in 1946 and worked on many construction projects throughout the Northeast in his career and became President of the Ironworkers Union Local # 7 in the late 1960's and early 1970's. He retired and has been a loyal member of the Ironworkers Union Local # 7 for 67 years. He enjoyed coaching little league in Melrose and was a former Chairman of the Democratic City Committee of Melrose.

Andrew is the beloved husband of the late Mary A. (Murphy) Williams. He is the devoted father of Eileen Williams of Melrose, Andrew Williams and his wife Mary Beth of Melrose, Stephen Williams and his wife Gail of Melrose and Henry Williams of Melrose. He is the loving Papa to Brian Williams, Molly Williams and the late Danny Williams. He is the beloved brother of Margaret Flanagan of Methuen, John Williams and his wife Bernie of Melrose, and the late Agnes Williams, Charles Williams, Henry Williams and Albert Williams. He is the brother-in-law of Helen Williams of Melrose. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Andrew's Funeral on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main St. Melrose followed by his Funeral Mass in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield at 10 A.M. Interment will be at Wyoming Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday, December 9, 2013 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
