11/16/2013

Edmund Giles ‘Ted’ Josephs, 74 of Peabody, passed away with his family by his side, Saturday, November 16, 2013 following a long illness. He was the husband of Dorothy J. Seigler-Josephs.

Born and raised in Beverly he was the son of the late Leslie F. and Lillian M. (Gaudreau)
Josephs. Ted received his B.A. in Education from Salem State College in 1961. Prior to his retirement he taught fifth and sixth grade history at the Winthrop School for the Hamilton Wenham School System.

Ted’s pride and joy was his family’s historical connection to Beverly which dates back to the seventeenth century. He was most proud of his twenty year stint as producer/director, along with co-director Richard Symmes of BevCam, the city’s local cable access station, the “Beverly Times Past.” The show, which began in the 1980s, was based on documents and photos from the Beverly Historical Archives as well as personal interviews and newspaper articles, and photos from private collections. The series has since been converted to DVDs and is now part of the permanent collection of the Beverly Public Library and the Beverly Historical Society.

In addition to his historical interests and care for challenged children, Ted was an avid Boston sports fan. He also loved reading and music, and prior to his illness, frequently attended B.S.O. concerts.

In addition to his wife Dorothy, he is survived by two sons, Peter Josephs of Sunland, CA, Timothy Josephs and his wife Lisa of Londonderry, NH, two daughters, Susanne Josephs of Londonderry, NH, Katherine A. Flint and her husband Scott of Sunapee, NH, he is also survived by three stepchildren, Diane Brusso of Haverhill, Warren Markowsky and his wife Robin of N. Andover, Janet Crossman and her husband Steven of Framingham.
