Obituary

NATICK: Michael R. Mahoney, age 62, a lifelong resident of Natick and devoted son, father, grandfather, brother and friend, died peacefully surrounded by love early Friday, July 6, 2013, at his home.

Born and raised in Natick, he was a son of Ruth (Fraser) Mahoney of Natick and the late Robert F. Mahoney. Mike was a 1969 graduate of Natick High School where he excelled in sports. He was a naturally talented cook and was employed for over twenty years as a chef at various restaurants in the MetroWest area. In 1998, he joined the Weston Public Schools as a custodian at the Weston High School, a position he relished until his retirement in March.

Mike enjoyed spending time with family and friends, at home or in Florida, a favorite destination of his. One of Mike’s finest qualities was his ability to reach out to those new to a group or in someway disenfranchised. Through his genuinely caring personality and his warm sense of humor, others would quickly feel at home in his company. Mike built a lasting bond with many at Weston High School, both among faculty and students. He was a faithful participant in The Jimmy Fund’s annual fundraising walk, even walking this year despite his illness. And despite that illness, his sense of humor and ability to laugh never waned.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his two favorite daughters, Tracy Mahoney Gallagher and her husband Evan of Hopkinton, and Courtney Mahoney of Upton; his awesome grandchildren, Camryn and Grayson; and his close family of brothers and sisters, Kathy von der Heyde and her husband Kelvin of Weston, Colleen Wells of Weston, Timothy Mahoney and his wife Kate of Sandwich, and Tricia St. Martin and her husband Paul of Natick. Brother of the late Maureen White, he is also survived by Maureen’s husband, Dan White of FL, and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common on Wednesday, July 10th at 9:00a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Patrick Church, 44 East Central Street, Natick at 10:00a.m. Burial will follow at Saint Patrick Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday 4 – 7p.m.
