Obituary

Edward Francis Galvin Jr., the son of the late Edward F. and Edna Mae (Ryan) Galvin passed to his Eternal reward on the morning of Monday, July 1, 2013.

Born on December 23, 1934 in Boston, Massachusetts, he was raised in West Roxbury. The husband of Audrey Ann (Nolan) Galvin, a resident of Dover Massachusetts for 48 years and a graduate of Harvard, class of 1957, he served our country proudly as an officer in United States Marine Corp. for three years.

He taught and coached football and baseball at Roxbury Latin for several years during the 1960's and later coached many of his children in the different sports of hockey, baseball and football as well as providing the opportunity to grow up around horses and ponies.

He followed Boston sports as an avid fan and became one of the first player representatives working with players in pro hockey (Boston Bruins) pro basketball (Boston Celtics) and pro football (San Diego & Miami). Mr. Galvin was also a self-employed Probate Attorney and worked from 1965 until one day prior to his passing.

A man of great character, loyalty, and deep faith, he was dedicated to providing the very best for his wife Audrey whom he loved so much and for all his children. Ed and Audrey shared fifty-six years of marriage together. Mr. Galvin enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, boating, dancing, his 1951 MG and a 1957 Chevy Pick-up. However, his most important joy was his family and the Marine Corp.

Besides his wife Audrey, he is the loving father of Kristin M. Galvin of Washington, Timothy P.C. Galvin & his wife Carol of New Hampshire, Fr. Gregory P. Galvin of Connecticut, Kerin M. Ircink & her husband Daniel of Washington, Luke E. Galvin & his wife Alana of Connecticut, Zach Galvin of Wellesley, Edward F. Galvin, III “Zeke” & his wife Jeniffer of Virginia, Samantha L. Fuller of New Hampshire & the late Michael A. Galvin. Cherished grandfather of Erika K. Block & her husband John H., Stephanie M. & Alexandra K. Means, Jessica A., Noah C. & Hannah M. Ircink, Talia R., Tyler J., Brandon W., Josie M. Galvin & Ethan D., Nicholas N. & Lucas A. Fuller. Great grandfather of J. Weston Block. Caring brother of Linda O'Keefe of Newburyport & Thomas Galvin & his wife Enda of Millis. Also survived by several nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers we ask that a donation be made to the Jimmy Fund Walk through Team Zach's Pack that was established 16 years ago when Zachary was declared free of cancer. Each year since, Zach, his students, teachers and many of the family have walked to assist in the battle against cancer. Friends and relatives may join the family at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St., at Natick Common for the wake on Sunday afternoon from 2:00-6:00 PM. You are also invited to join the family at the funeral home on Monday, July 8th at 10:30AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Patrick Church, 44 East Central St., (route 135) at 11:30AM. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury with Military Honors.
