Obituary

Constance L. Carey, retired Natick teacher and former resident of Natick and Port Clyde, ME, died peacefully at the Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox on May 26, 2013, in the company of her family and a caring staff.

She was born during a snowstorm on November 16, 1915 in Milford to Joseph Patrick O’Connor and Alberta Johanna Mary (Casey) O’Connor where her father was working. Her sister, Mary Elizabeth O’Connor Greig predeceased her in 1991. The family settled at 104 Lewis Road in Belmont in a two family brick home built by her father. Constance graduated from Belmont High School.

Constance and Mary both graduated from Boston University, Constance from Sargent College in 1937. Her teaching career began at the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Newton, and subsequently she taught in the Natick Public Schools where she met her future husband, Francis Joseph Carey of Natick. Following Fran’s Marine Corps service, they married in Belmont on June 28, 1947.

Connie and Fran went on to raise their family in Natick. She had a strong faith and was a devout Catholic. They were all active in the St. Patrick’s Church community. Constance enjoyed playing the piano and tennis, spending summers in Maine, baking, knitting, painting, playing cards, socializing, traveling, and following the Boston sports teams.

Connie is survived by her daughter Marcia (and Robert Becker) of Copake, NY; her son Kevin (and Frances Raymond) of Natick; her son Stephen of Burlington, VT; and her granddaughters Lillian Becker of Philmont, NY, and Johanna Becker of Somerville, MA.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral on Thursday May 30, at 9:00 A.M. from the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St Patrick’s Church at 10:00 A.M.
Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Interment St Patrick Cemetery.
