Elizabeth "Betty" Hamilton

Elizabeth (Nichols) “Betty” Hamilton, 89, a 53-year resident of Winchester, passed away Jan. 25, 2013 after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife for 64 years of Robert Reid Hamilton, until his death in 2006. Born in Harrison, NJ, Betty was the daughter of the late John Massey and Mabel (Ferguson) Nichols. A homemaker, Mrs. Hamilton was active in the Winchester community in her spare time. She enjoyed membership in the Winchester Republican Club, where she served on the executive board. As a member of the En Ka Society, Winchester’s oldest women’s volunteer service organization, Betty was Chairwoman of the En Ka Exchange consignment shop from 1997-1999. She particularly enjoyed En Ka’s annual fashion show and the annual En Ka Fair, for which she helped to prepare the locally famous lobster rolls. As an En Ka member, Betty also participated as a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program. Betty also enjoyed membership in the Winchester Garden Club, loved to attend the Jenks Senior Center and the Winchester Public Library. She was also a communicant of the First Congregational Church of Winchester.

Mrs. Hamilton leaves behind her sons, Robert “Bruce” Hamilton and his wife Renee of W. Newbury and Paul Reid Hamilton and his wife Moira of Manahawkin, NJ, and is further survived by her grandchildren Michael R. and Kristen C. Hamilton. She was also the dear sister of the late John Allen Nichols. A Memorial Gathering will be held in the Costello Funeral Home 177 Washington St. Winchester, on Fri., Feb. 15 from 4-8PM with a Service of Remembrance at 7PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the En Ka Society of Winchester, 1037 Main St. Winchester, MA 01890.
