Obituary

On September 6, 2012 Carole A. Spurrier (NEE Dentz) passed away at the Oakcrest Village Care Center. Mrs. Spurrier was born and raised in the Pimlico neighborhood of Baltimore and attended Towson State Teachers College. After raising her family of 5 children, she began a 25 year career as an elementary school teacher in the Baltimore County School system where she served for many years as a sponsor for the Odyssey of the Mind Enrichment Program. Mrs. Spurrier demonstrated her lifetime devotion to education as a volunteer in adult literacy programs and local middle schools after retirement. She was an avid reader, an avocation she shared with her sisters and passed on to her children and grandchildren. She was the beloved wife of 58 years to M. Eugene Spurrier and devoted mother of Michael Spurrier, Ellen Coyle, Lizbeth Ball, Barbara Fiedler and Laura Warner. Loving grandmother of 10 and dear sister of Paula Parsons & husband John, Linda Schnuit & husband Marty and sister-in-law of Winifred Gist and husband Rodney and Betty Shock & husband William. Her son-in-laws, daughter-in-law and many nieces and nephews share in the family sorrow.

Family and friends may call at the funeral on Monday, September 10th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. All are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Tuesday, September 11th in The Church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary at 9 A.M. Interment private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to Baltimore Reads, 31 S. Calvert Street, 4th Floor, Baltimore, MD 21202 or at 410-752-3595.
