Mark Thomas Smith-Hicks
April 19, 2012

Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears, but laugh and talk of me as if i were beside you. I loved you so; twas heaven here with you.

Mark Thomas Smith-Hicks left this earth on April 19th after a long and brave struggle with AIDS. Mark leaves his loving husband Dan Parker Hicks-Smith, their three dogs McKenzie, Skye and Connie, his father Thomas Jeptha Smith and step-mother Ellie Smith and many, many other family and friends.

Mark was born on January 24th, 1967 to Jep and Nancy Hatch Smith. He had three brothers, Jep, Peter and Michael. Mark’s family made their home in Braintree, Hyannis and Boca Raton, Florida. He was predeceased by his Mom and his grandmother Dorothy McCusker Brebbia in 1999. Mark recently lost his father-in-law, Parker Alba Hicks, Jr. of Colebrook, NH. He was able to help care for Dan’s father and mother, Parker and Janet Hicks and by his actions left a defining mark on the family who embraced him as one of their own.

Mark and Dan made their home in Manomet and had lived in greater Plymouth since 1995. They were married on June 29th, 2006 and lived as loving partners for over two decades. Mark and Dan also had a place in North Truro where they spent their summers with some of their closest friends most intimately Janice Guiou, her husband Rob Guiou and their brother Christopher Mark Foran. Mark and Dan both accompanied the Guiou clan on Christopher’s final journey to Maui, where dearest Christopher died on January 3rd, 2011.

Mark made his living as an accountant in Boston and devoted his recent decades to staying healthy and creating a loving home for his family and friends. He will be sorely missed by all whose life he touched.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 27th at Second Church of Plymouth, 518 State Road at 11
